Best Targeted Panel
The 5.8/10 overall score reflects one key limitation: this is not a full-body panel. Scored against full-body rivals, it can't compete on coverage area. Scored within its intended category — targeted spot treatment — it's our top pick.

🎯 Our Verdict
If you need a full-body panel, Vellgus isn't it — look at PlatinumLED BIO, Hooga HG1500, or Block Blue Light. But if you're treating a specific area — a bad knee, a shoulder, your face, or a recovering injury site — a Vellgus targeted panel delivers excellent irradiance (100–120 mW/cm²) in a lightweight, portable form factor that a full-body panel can't replicate. It's the right tool for a specific job.
What "Targeted Panel" Actually Means
A targeted red light therapy panel is optimized to treat a defined area — typically 6–24 inches in diameter depending on the panel size and distance. Unlike full-body panels that you stand or sit in front of, targeted panels are:
- Smaller and lighter — 3–12 lbs vs 20–56 lbs for full-body
- Repositionable — move easily between a knee, a shoulder, and your face in the same session
- Higher irradiance per LED — because LEDs are concentrated into a smaller area, local irradiance can exceed comparable full-body panels
- More affordable entry point — $149 vs $299–$1,299 for full-body
The right use case matters: Vellgus's 100–120 mW/cm² irradiance at 6 inches is higher than the Hooga HG series (80–100 mW/cm²) in our testing. But Hooga can treat your entire back at once; Vellgus can only treat a 12-inch patch. The "better" panel depends entirely on what you're trying to do.
What People Use Targeted Panels For
🦵
Joint Recovery
Knee, hip, shoulder, elbow. Position the panel 2–6 inches from the joint for 10–20 minutes per session.
🧴
Facial Skin
Anti-aging, collagen stimulation, skin repair. More coverage than a wand, more portable than a full panel.
💪
Muscle Recovery
Target specific sore or overworked muscle groups after training. Particularly useful for athletes with recurring injury sites.
🏥
Injury Rehab
Post-surgery or post-injury tissue recovery. Precisely position where you need it most without moving a heavy full-body panel.
✈️
Travel Use
Light enough to pack for trips. Some Vellgus models fit in a carry-on. Maintain your protocol while traveling.
🖥️
Desk / Office
Use at a standing desk or during calls. Targeted panels are small enough to use during work without a dedicated treatment space.
Irradiance — Strong for the Size Class
At 100–120 mW/cm² at 6 inches, Vellgus panels measure above most budget full-body panels. This is because the same wattage of LEDs is concentrated into a smaller area — the irradiance density is higher even though total power output is lower.
| Vellgus (targeted, 6") | 100–120 mW/cm² |
| Hooga HG Series (full-body) | 80–100 mW/cm² |
| Bestqool (full-body) | 70–95 mW/cm² |
For spot treatment, Vellgus delivers a higher-intensity dose per session than budget full-body panels. For whole-body treatment, a single Vellgus panel treats a small fraction of what a full-body panel covers.
Affiliate disclosure within our review: Vellgus offers the highest affiliate commission in the red light therapy category at 15%. We are disclosing this explicitly because it's relevant context. Despite this, Vellgus scores 5.8/10 because its targeted nature limits it compared to full-body panels. If commission rates influenced our ranking, Vellgus would be ranked higher. It isn't. Our scoring reflects what the panel is, not what it pays us.

Who Should Buy the Vellgus Panel?
✓ Great for
- Users with a specific injury, joint, or area to treat
- Athletes recovering from overuse injuries
- Anyone who wants facial RLT without a full mask
- People who travel frequently and want a portable option
- Existing full-body panel owners who want a targeted add-on
✗ Skip it if
- You want to treat your full body (get a Hooga or PlatinumLED)
- You have one purchase and need maximum coverage
- You want 4+ wavelengths for biohacking protocols
- You prefer brands with published third-party testing
Vellgus as a Second Panel
One strong use case: buying Vellgus in addition to a full-body panel. If you already own a Hooga HG1500 or PlatinumLED BIO for general sessions, a Vellgus gives you a targeted option for:
- Treating a specific injury that needs more focused attention
- Taking on trips when the full-body panel stays home
- Using at your desk during work hours without setting up the main panel
This "primary full-body + secondary targeted" setup is actually how many experienced RLT practitioners use their devices. The Vellgus fits this role well at $149–$399.
The Bottom Line
Vellgus earns its place on our panel list as the best targeted-use option we've tested. The 5.8/10 overall score reflects how it fares against full-body competitors — limited by design. Within its actual category, it's excellent: light, portable, good irradiance, and well-suited to the specific-area treatment its users need.
If you're debating between a Vellgus and a budget full-body panel and can only buy one: buy the full-body panel. If you already have a full-body panel and want to add precision targeting: Vellgus belongs on your shortlist.
